CHITRAL: The body of the boy, who was buried under a snow avalanche on Thursday afternoon, was retrieved in Sonoghur village of upper Chitral on Friday.
The boy, in his teens, was grazing goats in Tauv Zom area when the snow avalanche buried him. Villagers launched efforts and succeeded to retrieve him from the huge mass of snow on Friday. He was later buried in the village graveyard.
Meanwhile, in the same village, a student, Zeeshan Esa, shot himself dead in his home. He had earlier attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the river, but was saved. The immediate reason of his committing suicide was said to be domestic altercations. In yet another incident, Chitral police arrested the husband of the woman who had allegedly committed suicide in Naghar Drosh.
Sub-divisional police officer, Drosh, Mohammad Khalid told Dawn that initial inquiry proved that the case was not of suicide but she had been murdered. He said the victim’s husband, Jamshed Alam, had been arrested.
SUPPORT FOR PAK ARMY: Speakers at a meeting to express solidarity with Pak Army on Friday demanded of the government to put ban on Geo TV for ‘maligning’ the national institutions related with the defence of the country.
The meeting, held under the aegis of civil society organisations, said the life attempt on senior journalist Hamid Mir was detestable, but the incident should not be used to pursue one’s hidden agenda to ‘please’ the enemies of the country.
The participants criticised the management of the channel for going berserk against the armed forces and making the country a laughing stock and said that this was sheer misuse of the freedom of expression. Dawn
